I do. Seriously. I love the smell, the feel, the look of them (especially comics in the 70s). I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. And I wish I had the time, money, and childhood passion to collect and read them as I once did long ago.
I am excited every time I hear a film being produced on a comic book hero I loved as a kid growing up.
I’ve seen some real disappointments. But am always hopeful that the next one will be the one I can dream about at night like I dreamed about Star Wars every single night after I watched it.
It’s the kid in me.
So when I hear that Batman and Superman are going to be in the same movie it’s exciting.
But then I hear who they cast as Batman.
Marvel tried – as Daredevil – and what happened?
It’s Ben Affleck. Think about it.
Okay, I’ll give the actor’s actor the benefit of a doubt and I’ll wait to criticize or glorify what could be the best superhero movie ever – or a big flop.
It can only be that or great – and I’m hoping somehow, someway, it’ll be great. Mediocre only makes it a flop.
If you’ve never read a Batman-Superman team up and there is only one that you read, go get the ”World’s Finest” 3 issue mini-series by Dave Gibbons.
You may not know this but I owned a Comic Book store with my buddy Dale called, “Little Shop of Comics” in San Gabriel. It was one of those stores where we could hang out with friends, read comic books, play video games and live the last moments of childhood before ‘moving on’ so-to-speak.
So I took my child hood life and turned it into a business for 4 years. I loved it. There was never a day I drove to work and hated it. Despite the struggles – it was one of the best times of my life.
Little Shop of Comics was my way of contributing to the world of comics. And to this day, I love walking into a comic store and one of my rules of life is – if you walk into a comic book store you have to buy a comic. Always.
So after Dale heard about Affleck as Batman he texted me. It was late last night and said – we need to shoot “Bridge”.
Bridge is a short film I wrote – yes, a Batman-Superman team up with a twist so-to-speak. It’s good. I love this little short and now, more than ever, Dale and I need to raise the funds to shoot it.
As a ‘fan-film’ we truly believe that if we get this done it will turn some heads in our direction. I can almost guarantee, if you see this done, it will play at the San Diego Comic Con.
Speaking of the San Diego Comic Con – I was there during the early years. Yup. And one time, at age 15 and without a real driver’s license, my best friend (Steve) and I got in my mom’s Toyota Celica and drove down to San Diego with as much money saved up and bought as many comic books that we could buy and drove home.
Yup. I loved comic books.
So stay tuned for “Bridge” the working title is actually “Bridge over Troubled Waters”. And if it goes up on Indiegopop or Kickstarter please commit to support!
Read one of the best Batman-Superman teamups written!
